People believe in conspiracy theories, not because they are stupid. On the contrary, their brains are able to discern additional patterns. They are literally overthinking.
Conspiracy theories aside, worldviews are becoming increasingly polarized. If we are to be influential in this world, and not deceived, we need to be able to discern which thought patterns are valid.
Is there a methodology that can teach us spiritual discernment? Isn't that a contradiction?
Other than spiritual insight, there are the related sciences of logical thinking and of psychological biases. If we can identify patterns of skewed thinking, we should be able to discern truth better.
Eph 4 12-14 says we will avoid "every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes" only after we together become mature.
Is that passage saying that we need each other for discernment?
