Narcissus - a modern retelling

Recently there was a young man named Narcissus.  His parents raised him to have a high sense of self-esteem, and he was kinda hot.  So when he went boldly jogging shirtless along the boardwalk, the young women would notice and talk about him.

One young woman didn't just think he was hot, she fell in love.  At one point she got the chance to talk to him, but she often spent too much time checking out internet memes and blogs, so she didn't have anything original to say.  She just repeated recent things that other people said and didn't leave an impression on Narcissus.

But it wouldn't have mattered.  Narcissus was already enamoured with the most beautiful person he ever met: himself.  After each run he would sit in the park and stare down into the shiny flat surface of his iPhone, and send out quips and witty bits that proved (to himself) how clever he was. All he ever got back was reflections of his own quips. He therefore had a lot of "friends" but no real friends.  His life continued in this way, but not in a significant way.
